Artist Statement

I find that looking into past cultures, lifestyles and regions is my best source of inspiration. It helps me decide what materials and techniques I may use to proceed forth in my present and future directions.

My textile has roots in early South American and African cultures. I have incorporated natural dyes and fibers indigenous to these regions in my work. I have used woven baskets to form my ceramics, and my ceramics have been reflections of early textile designs.

I am continuing to experiment and explore various techniques and materials. I have been working in raku, pit firing, hand building and wheel throwing. My work has been a combination of all these techniques, both past and present.
