Mary Gosden - painter of oils on porcelain
Artist Statement
I paint any subject in which the light and cast shadows catch my eye. This is often architecture, but can be as stunning as a man-hold cover. I have "committed" art since I was a small child, and it is as necessary as breathing.
Artistic Process
Oils on porcelain is my favorite medium to work in. It is over 2000 years old, and very little has changed in this medium. I start with a photo or drawing that I have made, and draw it on to a piece of porcelain, for example, a tile which will be matted and framed. Painting smooth thin layers of transparent pigments is similar to watercolor, but I fire each layer in the kiln to make it permanent within the existing glaze.
