Artist Statement

My work dances the line between real and abstract; between the remembered and the imagined. My subject is the natural world, and I am fascinated by the idea that any one scene is temporary — subject to steady change by light, weather conditions, seasons, and human intervention.

My painting process involves joyful experimentation with color and texture. I start each piece using reference photos and memories of specific places, but the product is a culmination of my memories and the creative flow.

I know that allowing yourself to be absorbed by nature can soothe the mind and body, and I believe that surrounding yourself with beautiful art can give you a dose of the same soothing experience — providing a respite from the stress and distractions of daily life. The act of painting the natural world brings me joy and peace, and my aim is to bring those emotions out through my artwork.
