Judith Haynes Levins - painter

Artist Statement

I'm often heard saying, "I paint my world ", it's because I am continually humbled by the beauty that surrounds us. I attempt to capture a moment of inspiration with light, color, texture and values. My work is based in realism with an abstracted, impressionistic flare. I express freely creating a mood in my work to share with the viewer.

Artistic Process

I paint en plein air as well as en studio. In the field I like to start with a value sketch or painting to work out composition and light. From there I take it to a full color watercolor painting. Since plein air is difficult all year in Central NY, I do work from photos in the winter months or look out my window at the ever changing views. I'm a daily painter that paints quickly, because of that I often paint a subject numerous times.
