Artist Statement

Alla prima, plein aire, sur le motif – all are fancy ways of saying "painted from life," which is the way that I paint.  I am a contemporary realism oil painter who paints landscapes, still lifes and florals.  I strive to create serious painting that people would like to own and display.  I believe that a good painting grabs your attention and continues to work on you every time that you look at it.

Artistic Process

I seek out good motifs in the real world and then go and paint there in person.  I ask permission to go on private land and have had good results, especially from local farmers who have been very friendly to me.  I also set up still lifes or florals in a north facing window in my home and paint directly from that.
