Artist Statement

As a child growing up I always loved animals. I enjoyed watching their habits and movements. I spend many years studying their facial expressions and how their eyes almost told a story. So, twenty years ago I decided to start drawing and painting them. It doesn't matter what species it is, I enjoy the challenge of capturing its true nature.

Artistic Process

I start a painting by finding a subject, an animal, that captures my attention. After taking several photos, I pick one that will truly show its expression. I then draw it on my canvas to a scale that fits the canvas filling the canvas as much as possible. Then the fun begins with using oil paints to paint it. After the painting is finished and totally dry, I seal it with a water based polyethylene.
