Artist Statement

I am a watercolor artist and children's book illustrator. I enjoy sketching whimsical and cheerful scenes, often incorporating nature.

Artistic Process

Any illustration begins with a rough pencil sketch, which is then transferred to a piece of watercolor paper by tracing it with pencil over a lightbox. Once the pencil drawing is on the paper, I will use that as a guide for applying the watercolor. Sometimes I will ink the lines, other times I prefer the softer look of the pencil. Gouache is an opaque watercolor (which means it is not translucent) and I use it to add finishing touches of highlights or brighter colors.
